RENZO PIANO & BUILDING WORKSHOP- PROGETTI IN MOSTRA
One of the activities in the 2004 European Cultural Capital Genoa is "Renzo Piano & Building Workshop-Progetti in Mostra" exhibition. Since Renzo Piano is one of the architects who has made various contributions to the contemporary appearence of Genoa the exhibition gains a special importance. The idea behind the exhibition is to recreate the atmosphere of the architects Genoa and Paris studios in the Renaissance style Porta Siberia area. The exhibition leads the visitor through a sequence of spaces packed with designs, photographs and models in order to give an idea of the immense quantity of architectural work produced by Piano for a wide variety of locations across the world. The idea of "workshop" is a key concept for Renzo Piano and provides the basis for his theories on planning methodology. It also allows him to blend technological innovation with knowledge and high quality craftmanship. The relationship with place is another key theme of the exhibition. A major aspect therefore is the importance devoted to materials, construction techniques and respect for natural and human habitats which runs through the work of Renzo Piano. This aspect is very evident in the exhibit, as well as the fact that it is dedicated to the memory of the recently deceased Mario Fazio, ex-president of Italia Nostra and a noted environmentalist, with whom Piano shared a profound friendship.

Renzo Piano & Building Workshop-Progetti in Mostra exhibition was inaugurated on May 15, 2004. The guests were welcomed at the Porto Antico, Isola della Chiatte, Genoa and after a mini concert and the speech of Mr. Renzo Piano and municipal dignitaries they sailed to Museo Luzzati where the exhibition took place.
