KEMAL AHMET ARU' S ARCHIVE
In 1932, after studying architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts, Professor entered the Higher School of Engineering (later ITU). During his academic career and activities here and in the Istanbul Technical University (ITU), he contributed to the great changes that were taking place in Turkey in architecture and town planning, to which he also bore witness. The photograph album compiled by Kemal Ahmet Aru gives interesting details of this long process. These pictures, many of which are published for the first time, will serve as a memorial to foreign architects such as , Luigi Piccinato and , who set their stamp on the period, as well as to distinguished Turkish architects like and Orhan Safa. It also serves as evidence of the effect on the university atmosphere of events in the 1950s and 1960s as reflected in the photographs of the various visits paid to the Technical University by politicians such as Celal Bayar and Adnan Menderes, the various opening ceremonies and meetings of the senate. The album also includes small but very interesting details concerning the design of the First Bosphorus Bridge, the Technical University campus at Ayazaga, the Garden City Scheme in 4th Levent.

Foreign Architects in Turkey
"I owe my reputation as a town planner to Emin Onat . I have never referred to myself as a town planner. I am an architect, and I combine the two. Prof. Gustav Oelsner used to say the same. Oelsner was a very interesting man and an extremely refined person. He used to say, 'An architect can do town planning if he...

Architectural Memories
"A life devoted to architecture also means memories shared with architect friends and students. In every photograph can be found one or more architects who are no longer with us. For those who knew them, "It seems only yesterday we parted." For those who see them for the first time, "Yes, indeed, those are really fa...
