ARCHITECT TO IMPERIAL COURT AND REPUBLIC: VEDAD TEK
’s archives embody valuable documents concerning a turning point in Turkish Architecture and the life and works of an important architect. This archive, carefully preserved by the Tek Family up the present time, is today kept in the Suha Özkan-Pelin Dervis Collection. The M. Vedad Tek archive consists of photographs, sketches, written documents, designs and notebooks. On the recommendation of Suha Ozkan , about 80 percent from this archive have been digitally recorded to be used by researchers on the Architectural Museum. On account of their great number, for ease of access these documents are to be presented in two separate virtual exhibitions. The first exhibition consists of documents concerning Vedad Tek’s life and works. His notebooks will be presented to our visitors in the second exhibition. Several essays and especially the book under the editorship of Afife Batur, called "M. Vedad Tek: Kimliğinin İzinde Bir Mimar" have been taken basic reference Some photographs have been hunted up through the collaborative efforts of Pelin Dervis. Care has been taken not to depart from the basic sources. In other words, we aimed at establishing an easy-to-get-at archive which presents a wide accessible field for researchers. We hope that the blank spaces under some of the photographs will be filled and areas of conflict over the handwritten information are there to be resolved. We ask you to inform the Architectural Museum of the results of such research. On behalf of the architectural community, we would like to thank Suha Özkan and Pelin Dervis. Derya Nüket Özer.
