Located opposite Pammakaristos Church, which was converted into a mosque in 1590, it was commissioned by Grand VizierSinan Pasha in the same year.
Kemaleddin Bey sited the new medrese on the foundations of the old, he covered the portico section only. It is an early example of the style of the era where the muldings trace the window arches and are connected at the level of the spandrels to form a chain.
