At the end of the First World War and following the collapse of the Unity and Progress administration, Kemaleddin Bey’s duties at the Ministry came to an end and he started giving courses in ‘Architecture and Steel Construction’ Istanbul at the Academy of Fine Arts, and ‘Architectural Technology’ at the Conductor School in addition to his role at the Sehremaneti. He opened a private office, but the extent of his activity as a designer under post war conditions is not known.
In 1922, he received an invitation from the Palestinian Meclis-i Ali-i Ser’i-i Islamiye to restore the Mescid-i Aksa, and he went to Jerusalem.
Following the declaration of the Republic, Ankara was reorganised as the new capital. In 1925, he was reappointed to the Foundations Ministry as director of construction and repairs and head of architecture and undertook design and production on the Foundation’s Ankara projects.
