ARCHITECT KEMALEDDIN: A LIFE AT ONE OF HISTORY'S TURNING POINTS (1870-1927) |
1911-1913 Kuloglu Mosque Bostancı Istanbul
When the mosque in Beyoğlu was demolished on the grounds that it was neglected and in ruins and the Third Foundation Han was built in its place, the mosque of Kuloğlu Mustafa Bey was rebuilt with the school in its courtyard on the extensive land either side of the Bostancı Stream endowed to the mosque. It is better known as Bostancı Mosque.
The four load bearing towers supporting the dome and the square plan characteristic of Kemaleddin Bey’s mosques are integrated with the stepped finishing of the facades which is a leitmotiv.
