In 1870, the only son of Bahriye Miralayı Ali Bey and Sadberk Hanım, Mahmud Kemaleddin, was born into a middle class Ottoman family in the İstanbul district of Acıbadem.
And he lived in the years that changed history.
The end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century was an interval of time that harboured events of an intensity and importance for the world and for Ottoman geography and history.
It was an era of change difficult to follow even from Europe to the Far East.
