SPACES OF LOVE AND DEATH IN HALIT REFIG MOVIES |
Ask-i Memnu [Forbidden Love] (1975)
Doors exist with what takes place behind them. For some, they forbid a room or a building while for others they forbid the streets. What they express depends on who closes those doors or over what they are being closed. Some doors are open, inviting; some are locked up, drawing the line.
Forbidden Love is adapted from a novel of Halit Ziya Usakligil. The film is about lives behind the doors. In a system where traditions and prohibitions define the relationships, even in his/her family one can only take -or give- breath behind a door.
