ARCHITECT TO IMPERIAL COURT AND REPUBLIC: VEDAD TEK |
Vedad Tek- Designs
Various designs of , which have come down to us in his notebooks and as single pages, introduce us to one of the first architects of Ottoman times to give importance to design. After studying the foundations of architecture at the Ecole Nationale et Spéciale des Beaux Arts in Paris, he showed his strength as a designer not only in his figurative sketches but in many of his works in which he tried to stylize forms taken from traditional Turkish Art.
Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to give a date to most of the designs presented in this exhibition. Among these designs, the basic features of the First National Style of Architecture which spring from Seljuk and Ottoman ornamentation, such as interlocking polygonal, ‘rumi’ and ‘mukarnas’ forms as well as stylized plant designs are to be noted. In one section, among his other works, Moorish, Indian and Chinese motifs found on many of the details of column heads and iron railings are to be found.
