Villa Aulikki

On a rocky skerry, where junipers provide some greenery, in the Hiittis island group off the south-western coast of Finland, there once stood a modest, six square meter fisherman's cabin, located in a flat area between two low rockfaces and completely hidden from the sea. As this was considered the only possible place for the new building, the cabin was moved to another location, in order to preserve it.
The floor area of the new building is 15 m2. The spatial sequence comprising the new building, courtyard, old cabin and an outhouse is hidden behind a timber fence colored grey by the sea air. The boarding is held together by a dynamic beam, a horizontal forceful line intersecting the vertical lines of the ladder and the banner pole, continuing beyond the buildings "through thick and thin". The extension has a bold flat roof without eaves, a lookout platform - a "widow's bridge'', as the architect called it.
