Tripolis Theatre

Denizli, Buldan, Yenicekent

The cavea of Tripolis theatre, which is 188 metres above sea level, is set into the slope at a gradient of more or less 30 degrees. Looking at the theatre from the stream behind the stage the right hand large supporting wall appears to be still standing. Some parts of the left and right hand arched entrances of the cavea are visible. Beneath the rows in the cavea can be seen on the surface the ends of concrete reinforcements in line with the 30-degree gradient (cones cut in half as a measure against surface soil subsidence). A few rows of seats are above ground. It has been ascertained from a small excavation in the stage area that the facade of the stage building is quite ornate and carefully executed. The structure faces southwest. It has two tiers. The theatre has an estimated total of 34 rows. The dimensions of the stage building are 24 x 132 feet. The first echelon may have 6 radial stairways and the second 11.

It has a capacity of approximately 6,500 people.
