Tlos Theatre

Muğla, Fethiye, Düver village

Tlos theatre faces west on the slope to the east of the ruins of the city also known as Asar Kale. There are 22 rows of benches in the first level of the two level theatre and 16 in the second. The orchestra has a radius of 26 feet. The wall at the back of the second level of the theatre is 13 feet high. The first level has 12 radial ways. A major part of the stage building lies in a heap on the ground together with decorative pieces from the facade and pillars. The height of the stage building before it collapsed is estimated as being 35 feet. Two vaulted passages serving as exits from the central walkway have survived to date. Steps connect these passages with the central walkway. Some sections of the bench with a backboard along the six feet and thirteen inches wide central walkway have survived. The row ends of the benches are decorated with lions’ claws. The theatre has a capacity of approximately 5,600 people.
