Marmaris, behind the village of Hisarönü, close to the peak of Mount Eren (269m).
It is known by the local people as Gâvur Pazarı or Asarlık. The name Kastabos is thought to have come from the Luvi word Kastaba, meaning temple plain. Kastabos was a small town that grew up around the temple of the demi goddess Hemithea. .
Kastabos Theatre is in danger of flooding due to the fact that it sits on a water catchment valley. For this reason the second level of the theatre could not be saved from destruction. The theatre is estimated to have had about 28 rows in all. The west facing theatre is 269 metres above sea level. Excavations have not yet been conducted. Some of the rows of benches are above ground. Some of the header stones of the stage building door opening onto the orchestra are still above ground but the remains of the stage building are underground.
The theatre has a capacity of approximately 3,300 people.
