Kadyanda Theatre
|
Fethiye, Üzümlü
Fethiye can be seen in the distance from Kadyanda theatre on the south slope of the peak. An unusual feature of the apparently two-level theatre is the height of the rear support wall, which reaches an extraordinary thirteen feet. Absolutely no benches are visible on the surface apart from the seats with backrests arranged along the back support wall. The area corresponding to what is apparantly the second level of the cavea has enough space for a maximum of nine rows of seats. The row of seats with backrests on the wall could have been reserved for guests and governors. Details of the second level can be ascertained when an excavation is carried out. The rows of benches are arranged on the slope at a gradient of thirty degrees. The width of the upper walkway in front of the high support wall is seven feet. There is an additional row of marble seats with backrests right in front of this walkway. The placement of these seats is to help prevent the sound from being dampened by the high wall. The first level of the 21-row theatre has 10 radial stairways. A good part of the stage building is still standing. It is characteristically Roman with a hemispherical orchestra. Kadyanda theatre has a capacity of approximately 3,500 people.
