The theatre of Assos is on the slope to the south of the city. The theatre is the focal point of social life in the city and it is located under the terrace where the market place, city council and school are situated. The south facing theatre has three echelons. The structure that has survived to date is most probably an enlarged version of the original early period theatre. There are a total of 36 rows and two central walkways in the theatre. The first level has 14 rows of benches and 7 radial walkways with stairs, the second tier has 15 rows of benches and 13 radial walkways, and the third tier has 7 rows. The radius of the orchestra area is 32 feet. The height of the stage edifice must have been around 43 feet. The width of the circular walkway is 4 feet and 5 inches.
The theatre has a capacity of approximately 5,000 people.
