Anavarza Theatre

Adana, Kozan Dilekkaya Village.

The south facing theatre is 45m above sea level. It is likely that some of the stones from the benches have been taken away for the construction of other buildings and some are under the earth. Some sections of the supporting arches and the theatre’s rear south facing wall are still standing. A section of the central walkway and side walls of the barrel vaulted entrances opening onto it are still intact. A section of the support wall at the row ends on the left hand side is still standing. The remains of a few benches are in place. As is the case in a number of cities, the theatre is outside the city walls on the slope to the east of the city. The first level of the two level theatre must have had 27 rows of benches and the second level 15.

It has a capacity of approximately 7,500.
