Amyzon ( Amaison) Theatre

Koçarlı, near the village of Akmescit, Asar Tepe.

Although the cavea of the theatre is overgrown with oaks and pines, it is possible to see its boundaries and traces of the horizontal way between the two levels. Some of the rows of seats are above ground. As yet, no scientific excavation of the ruins has been conducted.

The theatre of the Carian city of Amyzon looks down from an altitude of 669 metres to the southeast. An examination of the boundaries of the cavea reveals that it must have been a two level theatre. There appear to be 25 rows of benches, although the exact number can only be determined in an excavation.

The theatre has a seating capacity of approximately 3,500 people based on measurements of the cavea.
