This house, designed by the architects as a family home, is a modern interpretation of the traditional features of a Bosphorus seaside house. The house is situated at the entrance of the Bosphorus with beautiful views across to the European side and its late-Ottoman palaces. It therefore has a simple design in keeping with its magnificent surroundings rather than trying to emulate them. The original house and outbuildings on this land, known to have been built in 1937 though of no historical and/or architectural significance, were redesigned in order to answer to the functional requirements of family life today. At the level of the landing stage, the lower floor contains cooking and dining facilites; at entrance level on the middle floor are the living rooms, while the top floor is reserved for sleeping quarters. The top floor of a secondary building is designed to be a small studio-bedroom for guests. On the ground floor there is a small section opening onto the garden for use by the staff. This seaside house retains the original foundations and as much as possible of the exterior walls, though these have been strengthened by reinforced concrete supports on the inside and outside The front view has been kept open to give a wide view. The wooden flooring, which was in a dilapidated state, has been replaced by steel girders and reinforced concrete. The roof of the secondary building, which can be seen from the road, has been designed as a roof garden. As the garden is well below the level of the road, a new entrance has been designed whereby steps lead to a bridge, part-wood, part-steel, which gives access to the house.
